What to do during times of high onchain fees?

Occasionally, unexpected events occur on the Bitcoin mainnet, such as significant fee spikes, sometimes up to 500x. Here is an example of such an event. (Picture from mempool.space). During these times, it’s best to avoid opening or closing channel or making bitcoin transactions in general.

Bitcoin can also have long periods of high fees. So, next time the fees go down you can prepare by opening a few channels.
