The easy way to self-custodial bitcoin payments.

Why are there fee credits?

Fee credits simplify your experience with Alby. Some of Alby’s services incur fees paid in bitcoin, and if you don’t currently hold bitcoin, fee credits let you still use the services. These credits help you to completed the setup of your Alby account. and start transacting over the bitcoin lightning network without limits.

What are fee credits and how can I use them?

Fee credits are designed to make setting up your self-custodial Alby Hub wallet easier. They can only be used to pay for Alby products and services, like the subscription fee for Alby Cloud or fees for opening a Lightning channel on Alby Hub.

How do I get credits?

You can start receiving bitcoin over the lightning network right after signing up for an Alby account. For example, your friend could send bitcoin directly to your personal Alby Lightning address. However, until you complete the setup of your Alby Hub wallet, these funds are only available as fee credits.

Is there a limit to how many credits I can receive and hold?

Yes, you can hold up to 50,000 satoshis as fee credits in your Alby account. To unlock unlimited sending and receiving of bitcoin payments, consider .

Can I withdraw credits when closing my Alby account?

Fee credits can only be used to pay for Alby services, like opening a payment channel or subscribing to Alby Cloud. If you close your Alby account, any remaining credit balance will expire.

What if the credit balance is too low to pay for the services?

If your fee credits aren’t enough to cover the cost of Alby services, you’ll need to pay the full amount yourself. Once your Alby Hub setup is complete, you’ll have the flexibility to transfer funds directly to your self-custodial wallet.

Can I use these credits outside of Alby, transfer them to other users or redeem for cash?

No, fee credits are only for use within the Alby system. They can’t be transferred to other users or redeemed for cash.
